Crimsonness - Blog. Grace Jones was an icon to me in the 80’s, she represented a bold, defiant, androgenous beauty that spat in the face of the Farah Fawcett, Cheryl Tiegs ideal that we were fed in the media. Guys were somehow acceptable as the effeminate lace and make up wearing crooners, but women were largely in their box.
Slammed ... Grace Jones has criticised pop star Lady Gaga in a new interviewSource:Supplied
GRACE Jones has slammed Lady Gaga in a new interview, saying she didn’t “feel a soul” when she met the controversial pop star.
Jones, who became infamous for her unique style in the 1980s, told US Weekly that she likes to “get to the soul of a person” but couldn’t “feel a soul” when Gaga approached her.
She accused Gaga of copying her by wearing designer Philip Treacy, who Jones was wearing during her tour.
It’s not the first time Jones has criticised Gaga. In September, an extract from Jones’ autobiography revealed her true opinion of Gaga, who was born Stefani Germanotta.

“With this one, who I will call Doris, I thought she was trying on other people’s outfits: she’s a baby in a closet full of other people’s clothes, a little girl playing dress-up, putting on shoes that don’t fit,” Jones wrote.
“I could see what she wanted to be when I watched her doing something when she started out that was starker and purer. Deep down, she doesn’t want to do all the dressing-up nonsense; she loses herself inside all the play-acting.”
Jones also wrote about a singer who wanted to work with her, but she refused.
“Everyone around me is going: ‘You have to do it, it will be so good for you, it will introduce you to a whole new audience, you will make a lot of money.’ No! It will be good for her; she will draw from everything I have built and add it to her brand, and I will get nothing back except for a little temporary attention.”
Bad blood ... Lady Gaga and Madonna fought in a comedy skit on Saturday Night LiveSource:Supplied
Gaga has been criticised in the past for appropriating the work of other pop stars and artists.
Madonna took offence when Gaga released Born This Way, claiming it was a rip off of her own hit song Express Yourself. On her 2012 MDNA tour, Madonna even performed a mash up of the two songs and ended it with a few lines from her song She’s Not Me.
“I certainly think she references me a lot in her work. And sometimes I think it’s amusing and flattering and well-done,” she said in an interview.

“When I heard (Born This Way) on the radio, I said, ‘that sounds very familiar’ — it felt reductive.”

Oasis’ Liam Gallagher said Gaga is “probably doing a sh*t on top of a boiled egg right now”.
“Somebody will f*cking freeze it and call it art”.
Gaga’s last music project was Cheek to Cheek, a duet album recorded with jazz legend Tony Bennett.
She is set to star in the new season of American Horror Story, ‘Hotel’.

Grace Jones (born 19 May 1948) is a Jamaican singer, lyricist, supermodel, record producer, and actress. She was born in Spanish Town, Jamaica and raised by her grandparents. At 13 she moved with her siblings to their parents' home in Syracuse, New York. Jones started out as a model, initially in New York state, then in Paris, working for Yves St. Laurent, Claude Montana, and Kenzo Takada, and appearing on the covers of Elle, Vogue, and Stern working with Helmut Newton, Guy Bourdin, and Hans Feurer.
In 1977 Jones secured a record deal with Island Records; she moved into dance and new wave music, often collaborating with the Compass Point All Stars. She scored Top 40 entries on the UK Singles Chart with 'Pull Up to the Bumper', 'I've Seen That Face Before', 'Private Life', 'Slave to the Rhythm' and 'I'm Not Perfect'. Her most popular albums include Warm Leatherette (1980), Nightclubbing (1981), and Slave to the Rhythm (1985).
She appeared in some low-budget films in the U.S. during the 1970s and early 1980s. In 1984 she made her first mainstream appearance as Zula in the fantasy-action film Conan the Destroyer alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sarah Douglas, and subsequently appeared in the 1985 James Bond movie A View to a Kill as May Day. In 1986 she played a vampire in Vamp, and acted in and contributed a song to the 1992 Eddie Murphy film Boomerang. She appeared alongside Tim Curry in the 2001 film Wolf Girl.
In 1983, Jones' One Man Show was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Long-Form Music Video. For her work in Conan the Destroyer, A View to a Kill, and Vamp, she was nominated for Saturn Awards for Best Supporting Actress. In 1999, Jones ranked 82nd on VH1's 100 Greatest Women of Rock and Roll, and in 2008, she was honored with a Q Idol Award. Jones influenced the cross-dressing movement of the 1980s and has been an inspiration for artists including Annie Lennox, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Lorde, Róisín Murphy, Brazilian Girls, Nile Rodgers, Santigold, and Basement Jaxx.
